Announcing New FLEX Route Service for Morganton on April 4, 2022!

"As of April 4th, 2022 our Burke Flex Route service has been replaced with a new Morganton Loop route. The Morganton Loop route has replaced the Morganton Routes 21 & 22. The service operates from 9:00A to 4:00P. In order to catch the bus, please be at the stop at least 10 minutes prior to the estimated stop time.  Some stops are serviced by request only and are “Same Day Deviations”. If you want transportation to a “By Request” stop, tell the driver which stop you would like to go to as you board the bus. When you’re ready to be picked up from a "By Request” destination, call Dispatch at (828)465-7634 and they will alert the next available driver. The fare will remain the same at $1.25 and a reduced fare of $0.60 is available for qualifying individuals. You may contact Dispatch at (828)465-7634 or Scheduling at (828)464-9444 to check if you qualify for a reduced fare. The fare must be paid in cash and correct change each time you board the vehicle."

Flex Route FAQs

What is a deviation?

The Flexible Fixed Route combines the benefits of traditional fixed

route service and demand response service. Flex is really two types

of bus service in one: The bus follows a defined route, picking up

and dropping off passengers at designated stops. The bus will also

“Flex” or deviate off its route. The driver will reroute to locations

within 3/4 of a mile of its usual route when a passenger has made a

reservation in advance.

How do I book a deviation?

The flex route is a shared ride, public transportation service. Requests

for deviated service may be made during normal business hours by

12:00 p.m. on the preceding business day that service is requested,

however additional notice is recommended. Reservations may be

made between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through

Friday. Deviated same day service requests are not available. The trip

requests for both destination and return shall be scheduled at the

time of the request. Same day service is available at designated bus

stops.

How were the stop/route locations selected? Why do the routes not go to "X"?

The planning partners from the Western Piedmont Council of

Governments and staff at Western Piedmont Regional Transit

Authority (Greenway Public Transportation) chose the stop/route

locations as the best place to start based off of data from countywide

surveys, current Greenway ridership, and the partners willing

to fund the service.

It's this team of community members who have made this new bus

service a reality for Burke County.

Thank you to Western Piedmont Council of Governments' Transportation Planners for your partnership and collaboration in all our regional transit efforts!
