Adverse/Inclement Weather (Service Closings and Delays)
Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority (WPTRA) / Greenway Public Transportation will not transport in unsafe conditions. The Authority’s first concern is for the safety of its riders and employees. While every effort will be made to operate vehicles according to published schedules, recognized weather conditions may cause operation of vehicles to be unsafe. The following guidelines apply in these situations:
- The WPRTA Operations Manager will be responsible for making determinations regarding the cancellations of service and will do so by 3:30 am.
- The Operations Manager will notify Marketing Manager of plans to cancel service, service delays and announcements (i.e. phone message lines at WPRTA (Scheduling 828-464-9444, Dispatch 828-465-7634) by 4:00 am or as soon as possible.
- Agencies and passengers should contact the dispatch office at 828-465-7634 to notify WPRTA of late openings/early closures by 5:00 a.m.
- Passengers should contact the Scheduling office at 828-464-9444 to re-schedule appointments.
- Bus service will be curtailed only in those areas, or time periods that roads are impassable.
- As a general rule, WPRTA rural van service will generally follow the lead of the county school bus service. If school bus service is delayed in the morning, or is cancelled for the day, then WPRTA service will also be delayed or cancelled if deemed appropriate to do so by the Operations Manager.
- Call the Scheduling message line at 828-464-9444 or the dispatch line at 828-465-7634 for the Adverse/Inclement Weather closings. Weather closings will also be posted on Channel 9 (wsoctv), and online with wsoctv.com/closings.
