Transit Planning
What we do
The planning staff is responsible for developing and analyzing service and schedule plans, including near-future transit service alternatives, intermediate-range service plans, and long-range service concepts. They also analyze and assist in the preparation of transit schedules and fare policies and are responsible for adding and improving bus stop amenities.

Current and Ongoing Projects
Community Transportation Service Plan - The CTSP Plan was approved by the WPRTA Board of Directors in September. The plan outlines key initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Authority and its services over the next five years. This plan is required by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Bus Stop Improvement Program - Greenway is in the process of planning a number of bus stop improvements throughout the service area. This includes new bus stop signs, additional passenger shelters, and bus and route information at each stop location, and bus stop lighting at key locations. This project is dependent on the agency receiving state and Federal economic stimulus funds. If funding is made available this project would begin this summer and be completed during the fall of 2010.
Fleet Re-Branding - Western Piedmont Regional Transit Authority (WPRTA) which operates as Greenway Public Transportation is in the process of re-branding the entire vehicle fleet. 6 buses, 9 Light Transit Vehicles, 45 Vans, and 4 support vehicles will be re-branded with the phone number, website address and reflective logo and striping. The new look for Greenway Public Transportation will be completed by the fall of 2010.
The fleet re-branding effort is funded entirely with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. The re-branding will improve both community and passenger awareness of the van service to residents of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties, and fixed route bus service to residents in the cities of Conover, Hickory, and Newton and the Town of Taylorsville. It is also a reminder of how using public transit helps air quality, while reducing traffic and fuel usage within the region.
